  This article explores the relationship between tourism and literature, assuming that the work and life of an author may be the basis for creating itineraries that encourage the tourism development of places through literature, leading to the sustainability of regional values. The life and work of José Régio are decisively marked by its passage through Portalegre, where he taught and lived a significant part of his life. Based on his life and work in this city, in this article we present a proposal for a biographical literary itinerary to be explored as a tourist product, in order to contribute to diversify the tourism offer of Portalegre.

  O presente artigo explora a relação entre o turismo e a literatura, partindo do pressuposto de que quer a obra quer a vida de um escritor podem servir de base à criação de itinerários literários capazes de potenciar turisticamente os locais onde eles irão ser desenvolvidos, garantindo, assim, a sustentabilidade dos valores regionais. A vida e obra de José Régio estão decisivamente marcadas pela sua passagem por Portalegre, onde ele foi professor e viveu uma parte significativa da sua vida. É com base na sua vida nesta cidade e na sua obra que apresentaremos, neste artigo, uma proposta de itinerário literário biográfico, a ser explorado como produto turístico, com vista a contribuir para a diversificação da oferta turística de Portalegre
