  • Resumen
    • Hydraulic fracturing operations in the UK are set to resume after the country's Energy and Climate Change Secretary announced that he was "prepared to consent to new fracking proposals for shale gas".

The UK's Treasury is also consulting on unique tax breaks for those working in the country's fracking industry.EAn HM Treasury spokesperson told IM, "A successful UK shale gas industry has the potential to create jobs and support UK energy security, benefiting the economy and taxpayers." Leila Deen, Energy Campaigner for Greenpeace, criticised the decision to give fracking the green light, stating: "George Osborne's dream of building Dallas in Lancashire is dangerous fantasy. He is not JR Ewing and this is not the US. Energy analysts agree the UK cannot replicate the American experience of fracking, and that shale gas will do little or nothing to lower bills.
