Muchos proverbios, paremias o adagios se usan en La Celestina como actos perlocutivos es decir, para influir las acciones y pensamientos de otro. Para conseguir este efecto, muchas de estas expresiones incluyen un importante ingrediente visual. Los actos de habla de casi todos los personajes están repletos de alusiones a un peligro implícito o real, que es expresado a menudo mediante paremias que a primera vista parecen inofensivas. Los proverbios y refranes funcionan frecuentemente como recordatorios subversivos de que los que los oyen o leen, tanto dentro como fuera del texto, tienen que estar siempre en guardia al procesar las palabras de los malvados y egoístas personajes principales de la obra. Este artículo se cierra con una lista de paremias incluidas en Celestina que son comparadas con la forma original de éstas en los repertorios de la época.

Many proverbs, paremias or adages are used in Celestina as part of perlocutionary speech acts, i.e, used to influence the actions or thoughts of another person. In order to achieve this effect, many of the proverbs uttered contain a strong visual ingredient. The speech acts of almost all of the characters of La Celestina are fraught with implied or real danger, and are often delivered through the seemingly inoffensive medium of paremias. Proverbs and refrains frequently function as subversive reminders that their audiences, both inside and outside of the text, need to be constantly on guard in processing the words spoken by the devious and self-interested main characters. The article includes a table with paremias from Celestina and their original form in the inventories of these utterances.
