Religion and literature are two broad areas which are in origin connected with each other. On one hand, the great religious traditions rely on Sacred scripture. On the other hand, the modern national literatures emerged in the religious universe, and since the 17th century there was a fast detachment and growing autonomy of culture from Christianity. Below, It will be examined how this very tense relationship between literature and theology became the subject of scientific debate in Europe.

Religión y literatura son dos grandes ámbitos, que desde sus orígenes se encuentran doblemente unidos. Por un lado, las grandes tradiciones religiosas se fundan en Sagradas Escrituras. Por otro lado, las literaturas nacionales modernas surgieron dentro del universo religioso y desde el siglo XVII la separación y la creciente autonomía de la cultura respecto del ámbito del cristianismo, se produjo a pasos acelerados. A continuación se demostrará cómo esta misma relación tensa entre literatura y teología se convirtió en tema de reflexión científica en Europa.
