Resumen de The Biographical Annotations in the Céberet Hours (UCLA Special Collections, Rouse MS 144)

Richard Rouse, Mary Rouse

  • Charles Céberet, First Secretary to the chancellor of France Pierre Séguier, recorded on the appropriate pages of the calendar in his fifteenth-century book of hours biographical notes pertinent to the twenty-year period from 1633 to 1652. The annotations permit one to make corrections to a variety of printed statements concerning members of this family of royal officials and they afford a brief but interesting commentary on the armed rebellion of the "Pieds-Nus" against an increase in the salt tax. Céberet was an eye-witness to the ruthless suppression of the revolt by the central government in late 1639.
