Resumen de Tra nome proprio e titolo: approssimazioni all'"Enanchet"

Luca Morlino

  • This article focuses on the enigmatic name Enanchet assigned to the author of a thirteenth-century didactic Franco-Italian text which vernacularizes and assembles heterogeneous material: Medieval Latin sermones ad status, outlines of universal history and an Art of love. After offering a critical overview of the hypotheses put forward by scholars so far, we suggest that Enanchet should be taken as an augurative name (lat. Enancius, a variant of the more common Avancius); the diminutive form of the vernacular should be then considered as a marking feature of genre, on the basis of other similar attestations in coeval vernacularizations of didactic text (e.g. Chatonet, Ysopet, Avionet, Theodolet, Pamphilet, Arrighetto).
