Resumen de La oposición germanismo / humanismo en la novela de V. Blasco Ibáñez Los cuatro jinetes del apocalipsis y el cuento de L. N. Andréiev El Káiser y el prisionero

En el presente artículo se estudia la contraposición germanismo / humanismo como el principal problema para la comprensión de la postura de V. Blasco Ibañez y L. Andréiev durante la primera guerra mundial. Ambos escritores revelaban la barbarie de la “civilización prusiana” contraponiendo a ella los valores humanos de la “Vieja Europa”.
El ejemplo más significativo de esta comparación lo representa la novela Los cuatro jinetes del Apocalipsis de Blasco Ibánez y el cuento El Káiser y el prisionero de Andréiev, textos en los que la base ideológica del “germanismo” se investiga por ambos escritores detalladamente y el conflicto del “germanismo” y el humanismo se instituye a través del contraste entre los dos antagonistas, uno de los cuales encarna el mal de la “civilización prusiana” y el otro simboliza el camino de Europa hacia la salvación.

This article studies the antithesis of ‘Germanism’ and humanism, considered as the principal problem in the comprehension of the posture of V. Blasco Ibáñez and L. Andreyev during the First World War. Both writers expose the barbarity of the ‘Prussian Civilisation’, which they counterbalance with the human values of ‘Old Europe’. The most significant examples of this comparison are represented by the novel The four horsemen of the Apocalypse by Blasco Ibáñez and the short story by Andreyev entitled ‘The Kaiser and the Prisoner’. In these works, the ideological basis of ‘Germanism’ is explored by both writers, while the conflict between ‘Germanism’ and humanism is conveyed through the contrast between the two antagonists, one of whom embodies the evil of ‘Prussian Civilisation’, while the other symbolizes the march of Europe towards salvation.
