What attracted the most attention at the 2013 London Design Week was not a chair or a lighting fixture but a gun made with a 3D printer on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A). Spearheaded by the museum's senior curator Kieran Long, the display led us to rethink not only the ethical use of the 3D printer, but also the activity of making things itself. Long has brought a fresh perspective into the V&A by advocating a method called "Rapid Response Collecting."
