SRC's new pilot plant, coupled with the Council's existing mineral processing expertise, laboratory and testing facilities, will allow mining companies in western Canada and beyond to access a full range of applied research, process design, scale-up and pilot-scale demonstration, as well as improved techniques for recovering valuable minerals, such as rare earths and potash.
"Companies will have questions ranging from'will it work well?' to'will it work at all?'. You can design and calculate things on paper and do some tests in the lab, but when you scale them up, they can present challenges or problems that weren't obvious before." SRC's Mining and Minerals Division's work is primarily "fee-for-service and contract development," he added.
