Resumen de Recuperando a "Perico" de Arcadio Zentella como un proyecto subalterno de liberación: limitaciones historiográficas en el siglo XIX mexicano

Francisco Laguna Correa

  • The purpose of this essay is to point out some of the limitations of the Mexican official historiography regarding subaltern experiences. My thesis is that during the Porfiriato the “official” modernity project did not exclude the incorporation of coloniality practices, such as the establishment of enslaving haciendas. I attempt to demonstrate my thesis by contrasting the subaltern experience portrayed by the novel Perico (1885) by Arcadio Zentella with the official historiographical discourse regarding the facts underlined by Zentella’s novel. My conclusion is that Perico, as a subaltern discourse, does not have the possibility of existence in the republican historical discourse ¾the dominant up to this date¾ because its existence exposes the ideological contradictions that the official historical discourse has attempted to conceal.
