En opinión de los humanistas las poesías épica y didáctica ocupan el lugar más destacado en la jerarquía de los géneros. A partir de las numerosas producciones registradas, Ijsewijn-Sacré (1998) distinguen los poemas épicos burlescos. En el libro IV de la Rusticatio Mexicana (1782), Rafael Landívar introduce pasajes épico-burlescos cuando describe las batallas del gusano del nopal. Kerson (1990) considera que la épica burlesca está destinada a despertar al lector. Sin embargo, el tratamiento burlesco de las escenas bélicas del L. IV encierra un contenido ejemplar.

According to humanist appreciation the heroic and didactic poetry ranks highest in the hierarchy of poetical genres. Among the numerous productions, IJSEWIJNSACRÉ (1998) distinguish the burlesque epic poems. In book IV of Rusticatio Mexicana, Rafael Landívar introduces burlesque passage when inserts the battles of the cochineals or purple worms. KERSON (1990) thinks that the mock -heroic style is destined to arouse the reader. But the burlesque treatment of the battles has an exemplar purpose.
