Resumen de Migración, remesas y distribución del ingreso: el caso de la región centro occidente de México, 2000-2008

  El presente artículo muestra un diagnóstico del fenómeno migratorio así como un análisis de la distribución del ingreso, con y sin remesas, en la región centro occidente de México durante el periodo 2000-2008. Ello con la finalidad de distinguir el nivel de concentración del ingreso en la región y el papel que juegan las remesas. En el documento se podrá distinguir que tanto la población de origen mexicano que reside en Estados Unidos como las remesas que envían a sus comunidades de origen han aumentado. Por otro lado, a partir de la determinación del coeficiente de Gini, tomando como punto de referencia el ingreso corriente de los hogares con y sin transferencias (incluye al factor remesas), fue posible apreciar que la región y los estados que la conforman se caracterizaron durante el periodo de estudio por poseer altos niveles de concentración del ingreso y que las transferencias contribuyen en la disminución de la inequidad en la distribución del ingreso. Con ello se denota el importante papel que juegan las remesas en la vida de los hogares mexicanos.

  The following article presents a diagnosis of migration from the central western Mexico and the perception of income held by Mexican households. This in order to distinguish the level of concentration of income in our country and the role of remittances as an additional element to income, reducing the degree of income concentration. Recognizing the strong historical link between Mexico and the United States in the economic, social and cultural development. This research takes as a case of study the Mexican migration to the northern neighbor. Thus, establishing from the determination of the Gini coefficient, taking as reference the current income of households with and without transfers (including the remittances factor), that during the period of 2000-2008, Mexico is characterized by possessing high levels of concentration of income and transfers, playing a key role to mitigate the inequity in the income distribution. This denotes the importance of the role remittances play in the lives of Mexican households.
