An essay is presented on economic growth, development, wealth, foreign investments and prosperity in developing countries from the 1980s through the mid 2010s, adapted from the book "The Great Surge: The Ascent of the Developing World," by the article's author. An overview of health improvements in developing countries, including in regard to reductions in child mortality from diarrhea, is provided. The U.S.'s foreign economic relations with developing countries is discussed.
