    • The article offers the author's insights on the Christmas lessons in word and image in the Douce Homilary liturgical book at the Bodleian Library in Oxford, England. Topics discussed include the Douce homilary starts with four atypical readings for the Christmas Eve vigil, the challenged faced by the professional artists of illustrating the type of manuscript through adopting different pictorial strategies, and the chronological gospel cycle. Also mentioned are the reliance on a traditional chronological series of illustrations and the nuns as patrons, owners and devotees who commissioned the manuscript.
