  • The article examines the growing movement known as civic-hacking in which the principles of data science are used to better inform the public through the creation of online applications (apps) with open data. It discusses SchoolCuts, an app that synthesized data on public schools slated for closure in Chicago, Illinois in 2013, and goes on to explore the influences of journalism on civic-hacking.
