The article examines how the violence in Gaza during the summer of 2014 was considered the deadliest in the past 50 years of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and discusses the impact on journalists covering the events. Particular attention is given to the social impact of a photograph by Tyler Hicks depicting children killed by Israeli attacks on Gaza. The physical and emotional effects of the war on reporters are also explored.
