    Jesus's activity of healing all those who are afflicted in body and spirit is summed up in Mt 8:16-17. This healing action of Jesus puts in motion the salvation that He brings to all of humankind (cf. 1:21) and that - as shown by the reference to Is 53:4 (cf. Mt 8:17) - will reach fulfilment with His crucifixion (and resurrection). Therefore, in oeder to be saved, all human beings must, through conversion and faith, accept Him as "the One who took our infirmities and bore our diseases". (Mt 8:17; cf. Is 53:4). Indeed, in His blood, shed for the forgiveness of sins (cf. Mt 26:28), Jesus establishes the New Covenant, for the purpose of granting all who believe in Him fellowship with God and, thereby, definitive salvation.

    L'agire di Gesù, che guarisce tutti i colpiti nel corpo e nello spirito, viene riassunto in Mt. 8,16-17. Questo Suo operare avvia la salvezza che Egli porta a tutta l'umanità (cf. 1,21) e che, come il riferimento a Is 53,4 (cf. Mt 8,17) fa intravvedere, raggiungerà il suo compimento con la Sua crocifissione (e risurrezione). Di conseguenza, per essere salvati, tutti gli uomini devono accoglierLo, tramite la conversiones e la fede, come "Colui che ha preso su di sé le nostre infermità e si è caricato delle malattie" (8,17; cf. Is 53,4). Di fatto, nel Suo sangue, versato per il perdono dei peccati (cf. Mt 26,28), Gesù istituisce la Nuova Alleanza con lo scopo dei donare a quanti credono in Lui la comunione con Dio e quindi la salvezza definitiva.
