Nate Berg

  • The article discusses the use of architecture, infrastructure, and building projects as tools of diplomacy and reconstruction in post-conflict cities. Topics discussed include: attacks on and vandalism of existing structures as forms of protest or terrorism; proposed train lines and border crossings, designed by the architectural firm SAYA, between the Israeli and Palestinian portions of the city of Jerusalem; the construction of the Beirut Central District in Beirut, Lebanon; and the planned creation of nonpartisan spaces in Belfast, Northern Ireland, including debate over what to do with the former British army base of Girdwood.
