  • The article discusses indications of global environmental distress that emerged during 2014, as well as indications of hope for positive human intervention. The year 2014 was on track to become the warmest year since at least the late 19th century. Two studies declared the West Antarctic Ice Sheet would inevitably melt, causing a significant rise in ocean levels worldwide. In September thousands of people demonstrated in hundreds of cities around the globe against climate change. Also in September the Rockefeller Brothers Fund announced it would start divesting itself of investments in fossil fuels.
