  • The article reports on the land crisis that besets Burundi due to the country's high population growth rate as of March 2015. Topics discussed include the reliance of Burundians on subsistence farming, the lack of coherent land ownership policies, and ethnic tensions. Information is also presented on the state of agriculture in the country before the arrival of European colonizers, land ownership under Belgian rule which lasted from 1916 to 1962, and the benefits of the colonial approach to land to the Catholic Church.
