The article examines the implication of China's huge appetite for imported energy, specially oil, for its foreign policy and its relationship with the U.S. Topics discussed include a comparison of Chinese and U.S. oil imports in 2014 and China's involvement in international security. The increasingly prominent role of China in the Middle East which comes just as the U.S. is trying to separate itself from a decade of wars in the region is discussed. Also discussed is the need for the U.S. to prepare for the consequences of a resurgent China.
