The Committee on the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics of the Mathematical Association of America is developing new guidelines for instruction in mathematics. As part of the thoroughgoing process, the Committee has held a number of workshops with representatives of client disciplines. In one of these workshops, a group of chemists and a group of biologists met with mathematicians at Macalester College. As requested, the chemists listed specific knowledge and skills in mathematics needed by chemistry students and indicated whether mathematicians or chemists would deliver the instruction. The course level of the instruction and the use of technological aids were also designated. The full report gives details on the interplay between the undergraduate curricula in chemistry and mathematics. The report that was submitted to the MAA is available; first choose Curriculum_Foundations, then CF_Chemistry.doc.
