    Les Regles d’esquivar vocables o mots grossers o pagesívols (c. 1492) no sols preconitzen les formes cultes de la llengua catalana, sinó que afavoreixen en un 85-90% de casos les preferències del català de la ciutat de València, com a reflex del pes cultural, econòmic i demogràfic que havia adquirit el regne de València durant la segona meitat del segle XV i, sobretot, com a parla habitual de la cort romana del cardenal Roderic de Borja, vicecanceller de l’Església (1457-1492), amerada d’humanisme, lloc en què aquelles es van gestar, gràcies sobretot a Jeroni Pau i a la influència de Paolo Pompilio.

    The Regles d’esquivar vocables o mots grossers o pagesívols (c.1492) is not only intent upon endorsing and prescribing the use of a formal Catalan vocabulary, but, in doing so, it gives priority to vocabulary from the city of Valencia over the rest of the Catalan-speaking regions in 85-90% of the cases. This in turn reflects the cultural, economic and demographic relevance attained by the Kingdom of Valencia during the second half of the 15th century. In particular, it reflects the formal language used at the Roman court of Cardinal Roderic de Borja, full of the humanistic influences of authors such as Jeroni Pau and Paolo Pompilio, among others
