Resumen de Internet biosurveillance networks and how they deal with translation
This paper presents three internet biosurveillance (IBS) networks, their evolution, workflow and the way they handle the constant language barrier they are faced with. In order to learn about their workflow and workload staff members of each network were consulted. Since IBS uses a great variety of web-based sources gathered information are multilingual. None of the examined IBS networks hire professional translators; despite gaining partly unsatisfying results concerning translation quality, especially with less common languages, machine translation is the prevalent tool since it ensures near real-time translation of large text quantities.
