The Invariant Features of the French Communist Party. Henri Fiszbin's recent book Les bouches s'ouvrent (1980) brings to light, in a concrete way, some of the permanent features of the communist world, such as the way in which the Party functions as a «total institution» (in Goffman's sense) and as a sect (in the sense defined by Weber in The Protestant Ethic), or the working-class habitus of the leadership. The book is here used as a means of analysing the thinking and behaviour of a Party, official in 1980, with a view to a clearer understanding of what was happening between 1948 and 1953, when, without objective constraints, the French Communists, not least their intellectuals, reproduced everything which the Soviet and East-European parties imposed through terror.

Les invariants du parti communiste français. Le livre d'Henri Fiszbin, Les bouches s'ouvrent (1980) met au jour, concrètement, sous la plume d'un (ancien) dirigeant quelques-unes des permanences de l'univers communiste : fonctionnement du parti comme une institution totale (au sens de Goffman), caractère de secte (au sens précisé par Weber dans L'éthique protestante), habitus ouvrier de la direction. Démontant, grâce à ce livre, comment pense et agit un permanent en 1980, on vise en particulier, à rendre mieux intelligible ce qui se passait dans les années 1948-1953, où sans contrainte objective, les communistes français, intellectuels en tête, ont reproduit tout ce que l'URSS et les démocraties populaires imposaient par la terreur.

Die Invarianten der Kommunistischen Partei Frankreichs. Im Buch von Henri Fiszbin, Les bouches s'ouvrent (1980) sind aus der Feder eines (früheren) führenden Funktionärs der Partei einige dauerhafte Elemente des kommunistischen Universums konkret dargelegt : das Funktionieren der Partei im Sinne einer totalen Institution (in der Bedeutung von Goffman), deren Sektencharackter (imexakten Sinne Webers aus der Protestantischen Ethik), Arbeiterhabitus der Führung. Mit dem Aufweis —gestutzt auf das oben erwähnte Buch—, wie ein Funktionär von 1980 denkt und handelt, ist zugleich der Versuch verbunden, die Geschehnisse zwischen 1948 und 1953 aufzuhellen, eine Periode also, in der die französischen Kommunisten, die Intellektuellen an ihrer Spitze, all das ohne objektiven Zwang reproduzierten, was innerhalb der UdSSR und der Volksdemokratien mittels des Terrors durchgesetzt wurde.
