Understanding of symmetry and awareness of the three-dimensional aspects of compounds and reactions are important for student learning in the chemical sciences. The Central Missouri State University department of chemistry is making a concerted effort to integrate symmetry-related activities and experiments across the undergraduate chemistry curriculum. A lecture and practice module on point group symmetry was developed and results from the point group symmetry module and subsequent assessment activities were used to measure student learning and evaluate the effect on course curriculum.
