    Eine Nomenklatur und ihre Umsetzung. Die Hinterfragung der statistischen Kategorien beschränkt sich in der Regel auf die immanente Kritik der ihnen zugrundeliegenden Begriffe. Im vorliegenden Artikel geht es um den Nachweis der soziologischen (und nicht nur methodologischen) Relevanz einer Analyse der praktischen Bedingungen der Umsetzung dieser Kategorien im Rahmen der Untersuchungen. Illustriert wird dieses Projekt anhand einer eingehenden Prufung der Bedingungen, unter denen die Statistiken zur sozialen Herkunft der Studenten in Frankreich erarbeitet werden : Dazu werden die Organisationsmodi der administrativen Enquete, die Bedingungen der Informationsgewinnung, schließlich die Typen der praktischen Interpretation des Code der sozioprofessionellen Kategorien durch das Personal nachgezeichnet und dann mit den erarbeiteten Statistiken in Beziehung gesetzt.

    A Nomenclature and its Implementation. Critiques of statistical categories are often limited to internal analysis of the notions on which they are based. This article seeks to show the sociological (and not only methodological) interest of analysing the pratical conditions of the implementation of these categories in surveys. It is illustrated by means of a detailed examination of the conditions of production of the statistics on the social origin of students in France. The modes of organization of the administrative survey, the conditions of information-gathering and the types of practical interpretation of the code of socio-occupational categories by the personnel are described and related to the statistics that are produced.

    Une nomenclature et sa mise en œuvre. L'interrogation sur les catégories statistiques se limite souvent à la critique interne des notions qui les sous-tendent. On veut montrer l'intérêt sociologique (et non seulement méthodologique) d'une analyse des conditions pratiques de la mise en œuvre de ces catégories dans les enquêtes. Ce projet est illustré par l'examen détaillé des conditions de la production des statistiques sur l'origine sociale des étudiants en France : les modes d'organisation de l'enquête administrative, les conditions de recueil de l'information, les types d'interprétation pratique du code des catégories socio-professionnelles par le personnel sont décrits et mis en relation avec les statistiques produites.
