Un recorrido selectivo por la geografía y la historia del Mediterráneo tras la migración de un símbolo: el creciente lunar. Este símbolo viaja desde el antiguo mundo mesopotámico a las costas fenicias, para después embarcarse y atravesar el Mediterráneo de Este a Oeste hasta llegar a la península Ibérica, donde los fenicios fundan una serie de ciudades; de ellas Cádiz será la más importante. Se crean talleres artesanos de joyería en el litoral mediterráneo en colaboración con los habitantes del país. Ya en la Edad Media serán los bizantinos y también los árabes los encargados de difundir y crear joyas en forma de creciente entre las que destacan las arracadas. Las joyas populares serán las herederas de toda esta tradición que especialmente se localiza en la zona occidental de España, así como en núcleos ubicados en la meseta central.
Medias lunas y arracadas castellanas serán los ejemplares más interesantes.

A survey through Mediterranean geography and history behind the migration of a symbol: the moon crescent. In the Ancient history this symbol travels from Mesopotamian world to Phoenician cost, after that it crosses the Mediterranean Sea from East to West and arrived to Hispania where the Phoenicians found some cities, Cádiz was one of the most important. In collaboration with the people of the country they made artisant factories of jewellery in mediterranean littoral. In the Middle Age Byzantines and the Arabs were the makers and diffusers of jewellery in form of crescents, especially pendents. Popular jewellery are inheritor of this tradition, we localize it in the west side and in central nucleus of Spain. Amulets in form of moon crescents and Castilian arracadas are the most interesting examples
