En este estudio el autor analiza la contribución de los ministros protestantes a la vida intelectual y las mentalidades en cuanto a lo que consideraban las fuentes validas de conocimiento, los pensamientos sobre el origen del universo, la naturaleza y el destino del hombre, la estética en la música, la arquitectura y otras manifestaciones artísticas y las doctrinas teológicas que estaban detrás de las actitudes sociales. Este análisis en apariencia “demasiado” lejano e irrelevante es fundamental para poder comprender las tradiciones y mentalidades misioneras que incidieron en América latina, como así también en las maneras de sentir que habrían de persistir en la larga duración.

An Approach to the American Protestants’ Inheritance in the XVII Century. In this study, the author analyzes the Protestant ministers’contribution to the intellectual life and the mentalities they had concerning what they considered the valid sources of knowledge, their thoughts on the origin of the universe, nature and man’s destiny, aesthetics in the music, architecture and other art manifestations, and the theological doctrines that were behind the social attitudes. This analysis, apparently “too” far and irrelevant, is crucial to understand the missionary traditions and mentalities that impacted Latin America, as well as the ways of feeling that should persist in this long period.
