Environnement et occupation humaine littorale sur le site du Bas-Lauvert (Antibes, Alpes-Maritimes)

    In 1989, a planned pebble-bed and a wooden stake alignment were discovered at the end of the gulf of Juan, in front of the Lerins islands, in the Bas-Lauvert suburb at Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes). Established in a filled palus behind an offshore bar, these amenagments may be a fishpond or an arrangement linked to coastal fishing. Dating from Roman period, this arrangement is, perhaps, linked to the Antipolis garum production well known through texts. A palynological study completed field archaeological observations especially owning to an underneath layer of peat and allowed the restitution of a coastal landscape B.C.

    En 1989, un aménagement de galets et un alignement de pieux en bois ont été mis au jour au fond du golfe Juan et face aux îles de Lérins, au quartier de Bas-Lauvert, commune d' Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes). Etablis dans un palud (aujourd'hui comblé), derrière un cordon littoral, ces aménagements sont interprétés comme un vivier ou un dispositif analogue destiné à la pêche littorale. Daté de l'époque romaine, ce dispositif pourrait être mis en liaison avec la production du garum antipolitain connue par les textes. Une étude pollinique a complété les observations archéologiques de terrain (notamment grâce à une couche de tourbe sous-jacente) et a permis la restitution d'un paysage côtier antérieur au changement d'ère.
