    Carlos Fuentes en sus ensayos analiza la narrativa de los años sesenta y las características de las novelas por él seleccionadas. Mediante este proceso, el autor no solo intenta resolver la antinomia entre el componente estético y la circunstancia política, sino también entre “universalidad” y “localidad” de la literatura latinoamericana. El presente estudio analiza el concepto del tiempo en los ensayos de Fuentes, comparándolo con el tiempo de la fenomenología hermenéutica, a fin de indagar la función del tiempo que debería representar la realidad de la novela, según Carlos Fuentes. El corpus comprende los siguientes ensayos: La nueva novela hispanoamericana (1969), Tiempo mexicano (1971), Valiente mundo nuevo. Épica, utopía y mito en la novela hispanoamericana (1990), Geografía de la novela (1993) y La gran novela latinoamericana (2011).

    In his essays, Carlos Fuentes analyzes the narrative of the 60s and the characteristics of the novels selected by him. Through this analytical process, his essays resolve not only the antinomy between the esthetic components and political circumstances of the novels but also between the “universality” and “locality” of Latin American literature. The present article analyzes the concept of time in the author’s essays by comparing it with the time of hermeneutic phenomenology in order to discuss Fuentes’ analysis of the function of time as representation of the reality of novel. The corpus of the present article includes the following essays: La nueva novela hispanoamericana (1969), Tiempo mexicano (1971), Valiente mundo nuevo. Épica, utopía y mito en la novela hispanoamericana (1990), Geografía de la novela (1993) and La gran novela latinoamericana (2011).
