  José Ortega Gasset y Alfonso Reyes, dos de los pensadores hispanohablantes más importantes del siglo XX, se conocieron a finales de 1914 en Madrid, donde el mexicano se había exiliado a causa de la Revolución de su país y en medio de la Primera Guerra Mundial. Entre 1914 y 1924 Reyes vivió en Madrid en contacto frecuente con Ortega, quien lo incorporó a sus empresas periodísticas (al semanario España, los diarios El Imparcial, El Sol y la Revista de Occidente). A pesar de que en 1947 Ortega rompió con él y con sus antiguos alumnos exiliados en México, Reyes siempre manifestó agradecimiento con el filósofo español, un agradecimiento no exento de críticas e ironías. Este artículo aspira a introducir un epistolario que se extiende por casi cuarenta años y que hasta ahora no se había publicado en su totalidad.

  José Ortega Gasset and Alfonso Reyes, two of the most important Spanish-speaking thinkers of the twentieth century, met each other in late 1914 in Madrid, where the Mexican was exiled because of the Mexican Revolution and in the middle of First World War. Between 1914 and 1924, Reyes lived in Madrid in frequent contact with Ortega, who invited him to join his journalistic enterprises (the weekly España, the newspapers El Imparcial, El Sol and the Revista de Occidente). Despite in 1947 Ortega broke up with him and with his old students now exiled in Mexico, Reyes was always grateful to Ortega. This article aims to introduce the correspondence between both thinkers, which extends for almost 40 years. It is the first time to be published as whole.
