In April 17th 1912 the central path of a hybrid (annular-total) Solar eclipse traversed Galicia passing through O Barco de Valdeorras. It was observed from that location by a scientific commission led by the then well-known astronomer and science communicator Josep Comas i Solà. In this paper we analyze the significance of the main technologic innovation successfully demonstrated by Comas in this eclipse (a movie-camera prism spectrograph to study the temporal evolution of the flash spectrum of the Suns chromosphere), and we address the impact that this astronomical phenomenon had on the daily life of the town
