La presente investigación intenta individuar las motivaciones teóricas e históricas del voluntarismo de Duns Escoto. Se trata de una problemática extremadamente amplia y estructurada que está presente en toda la obra del Doctor Sutil y que involucra otras complejas cuestiones. El primado de la voluntad echa sus raíces en la concepción de Dios como persona y en la racionalidad intrínseca de la voluntad, que Escoto desarrolla valiéndose de Aristóteles y Anselmo ("Quaestiones in Metaphysicam" IX, 15; "Ordinatio" II, 6). Se trata de un nivel diverso de racionalidad, no del lógico-matemático de la evidencia necesaria sino del "agere propter finem". Este hecho lleva consigo un nuevo significado de contingencia (sincrónica - "Lectura" I, d. 39) que no asume los rasgos inquietantes del abitrio incontrolado, sino que refleja el rostro de libertad del amor gratuito de Dios.

The aim of this research is to attempt to identify the theoretical and historical motives of the voluntarism of Duns Scotus. This is a vastly ample problematics in many parts, which characterises the whole oeuvre of the Subtle Doctor, involving other complex matters. The primacy of the will is rooted in the concept of God as personal and in the intrinsic rationality of the will, which Scotus works out, drawing from Aristotle and Anselm ("Quaestiones in Metaphysicam" IX, 15; "Ordinatio" II, 6). It is a different level of rationality, not the logical-mathematical one of necessary evidence, but that of "agere propter finem". This brings with it a new meaning of contingency (synchronic - "Lectura" I, d.39), which does not display the disturbing signs of uncontrolled arbitrariness, but reflects rather the shape of freedom proper to God's freely offered love.
