As imagens do passado são valiosas para reconstruir a história da tecnologia e desenho têxteis. Estudos realizados em Itália e Espanha sobre a arte de seda nos séculos XV-XVI constituem uma das maiores contribuições internacionalmente. Este artigo discute alguns exemplos significativos de produção artística da época para obter informações em perspectiva comparativa sobre a cultura de seda Mediterrânica ocidental. Finalmente, um estudo em curso é exposto sobre o diálogo de civilizações têxteis entre a Europa e América.

The images of the past are valuable to reconstruct the history of textile technology and design.
Studies carried out in Italy and Spain on the art of silk in the 15th-16th centuries are one of the greatest contributions to the international research. This paper analyzes some significant examples of artistic production to obtain information in comparative perspective about the silk culture of the Western Mediterranean.
Finally, a work in process on the dialogue of textile civilizations between Europe and America is considered.
