Sabemos que la problemática surgida con respecto a la vigilancia y al control es un fenómeno que comenzó a existir antes de los hechos trágicos que se acontecieron tras el 11-S en Nueva York, pero hay que destacar que a partir de este acontecimiento el aumento de la implantación de cámaras de vigilancia por metro cuadrado en la ciudad de Nueva York ha sido mayor. En Estados Unidos existen una serie de colectivos que están manifestando una postura crítica en cuanto a la situación de control y vigilancia a la que se encuentra sometida la sociedad actual, reivindicando el derecho a la intimidad, así como el derecho a pasar de desapercibido por el espacio público y que nadie vigile ni controle sus actos. En Estados Unidos destacamos el Colectivo activista Surveillance Camera Player (SCP), su trabajo reivindica los derechos fundamentales de las personas, como lo es el derecho a la intimidad y a la privacidad, ante una sociedad que vive acorralada en una estructura de control y vigilancia tecnológica, donde cualquier imagen o dato queda registrado en las diferentes cámaras de vigilancia repartidas por toda la ciudad de Nueva York.
