  • Resumen
    • Evo-devo as a complex approach to biological evolutionEvolutionary developmental biology (evo-devo) has emerged as a proposal to study the integration between evolutionary and the organisms developmental processes. In accordance with the proposed extension of the Synthetic Theory of Evolution, evo-devo has been presented as a subdiscipline that challenges, to a certain extent, the so-called “gene centrism.” Even so, many authors have suggested that genetic reductionism is still present in evo-devo. In this article, I argue that certain approaches within evo-devo effectively challenge the genetic reductionism, and that they even manage to incorporate some approaches coming from the field of complexity. After presenting some features of the subdiscipline, I analyze which complex elements are incorporated by such approaches. I finalize with some ideas concerning the scope and importance of the changes proposed by evo-devo for the study of biological evolution.
