The article presents a personal working experience with Jean-Claude Gardin in Afghanistan. It first deals when he was implementing his theories on the codification of potery using the ceramic material from Aï Khanoum, and then, when, heading a survey in Eastern Bactria, he was elaborating his book A theoretical archaeology. The article shows the methodical and rigorous mind that characterized Jean-Claude Gardin, and its great efficiency in the field.

L’article relate une expérience personnelle de travail auprès de Jean-Claude Gardin en Afghanistan, d’une part lorsque celui-ci mettait en pratique ses théories de codification de la poterie sur le matériel céramique d’Aï Khanoum, et, d’autre part, lors d’une prospection en Bactriane orientale, lorsqu’il était en train d’élaborer Une archéologie théorique.
