  • Resumen
    • Giusto Le Court, Enrico Merengo and the Diana in Livio Odescalchi's collection.

The article begins with the rediscovery of a bust portraying "Diana", which can be stylistically related to Enrico Morengo (1638-39?-1723), in the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso (Segovia). Investigating its collecting history, the author established that, before arriving at La Granja, the sculpture was in the prestigious collection of Livio Odescalchi (1558-1713). This rich collection also included, as known, works that arrived in Rome from Venice thanks to the meditation of Quintiliano Rezzonico (1651-1726). Once again consulting the originals of the correspondence between Quintiliano and Livio, which were published in 2000 and 2002 by Marco Pizzo, the author not only found the necessary documentary confirmations for certifying that the "Diana" in La Granja is the same sculpture (precisely a bust) cited in the correspondence between Quintiliano Rezzonico and Livio Odescalchi -or rather the sculpture begun by the Fleming Le Court and masterfully completed by Enrico Merengo- but has also identified new archive information regarding another work by the Fleming sculptor for the Roman prince and until now held as an anonymous work at the Prado Museum in Madrid. Finally, in a note in the same article the author presents an unpublished letter, from the same correspondence, regarding the renowned sculptor Francis Van Bossuit (1635-1692) and from which it has finally been established that this artist arrived in Rome for the first time, via Venice, only in 1679.
