The new 200,000 square foot facility, which will now be owned by Imerys, is located near to Imerys' Sandersville kaolin mine, as well as the company's 100,000 tpa proppant manufacturing facility, both of which are based in Georgia.
"The interest in non-conventional deposits is opening up global prospects for the oilfield minerals market, which was already growing in the US. By investing in this new industrial complex, Imerys has reached a significant step in the implementation of its internal growth strategy by 2016," Gilles Michel, Imerys CEO, said.
In fact, Imerys has been working to increase its presence in the oilfields industry for some time now. During an interview with IM in September last year, Imerys' Michel spoke of the company's plans for its first Georgia-based plant, located close to the newly-acquired facility.
