Russia's Magnezit Group has patented a new method of producing a magnesia conditioning agent, designed to reduce corrosion by slag on refractory linings.
The new technique for producing the conditioning agent differs from the previous process used by Magnezit through the introduction of an unburnt-calcium-containing component during mixing, and the application of a burnt magnesia component consisting of grains finer than 0.088mm.
"The economics of steel production - specifically, the productivity of melting units - is largely dependent on the resistance of the refractory lining, which is subjected not only to [wear from] mechanical and thermal action, but also to the aggressive action of slag," a Magnezit spokesperson explained to IM.
