This article deals with three subjects with an underlying line of argument aiming to updatethe criteria used to classify medieval coins, contrasting those used until the nineteenth century withthose that can be established in the present day. From the lack of interest in medieval coins in theeighteenth century, followed by the major advances in classification during the nineteenth century,the coins of Queen Urraca are catalogued on the basis of the latest interpretative criteria.
