The author of this piece will try to examine the 25 and 50 units gold coins with a lion`s head struck in Populonia; In particular the author will try to study the differences between dies and between series using various statisticals test. The author has found that the 50 unit coins come from a single die, while the 25 unit coins come from at least 4 different dies (one of which seems to havebeen used a lot more than the others). The author has also found that the 25 unit coins have a higher variance of the weight statistics when compared to the the 50 unit coins. Lastly the author will try to estimate the possible amount of coins issued.
