El futuro de los mercados de valores vendrá marcado por la regulación y la evolución tecnológica. Ambos factores han mostrado un extraordinario dinamismo en los últimos años. su desarrollo individualmente considerado, y sobre todo, su interacción están conformando nuevos paradigmas sectoriales. Por un lado, la regulación se ha convertido en la principal ocupación y preocupación del sector debido a la extensión, intensidad y grado de detalle de las nuevas normas emanadas de la unión Europea y de los EEuu. la nueva regulación afecta a toda la cadena de valor de las transacciones en todo tipo de valores. Por otro, la evolución tecnológica trata de responder a este reto, centrada en el desarrollo de servicios aque ayuden al cumplimiento de la nueva normativa, y al servicio de los nuevos clientes que demandan alta velocidad, máxima seguridad y calidad contrastable. Este artículo desarrolla este planteamiento repasando también la historia reciente que nos ha traído hasta aquí, desde la perspectiva de la Bolsa española y la compañía que gestiona las infraestructuras, BME.

The future of stock markets will be influenced by the regulation and the technnological progress. Both factors have shown extraordinary dynamism over the last few years. Considered individually, their development and, to a larger extent, their interaction, are shaping new industry paradigms. On the one hand the regulation has become the main occupation and preoccupation within the industry due to the scope, intensity and level of detail contained in the new regulations emanating from the EU and the US. The new regulation affects the entire transaction value chain and all types of securities. On the other hand, the technological progress tackles this challenge by focusing on the development of services aimed at helping to comply with the regulation and by serving those new clients seeking high speed, maximum security and quality. This article develops this approach while also reviewing the recent history that have led us here, from the perspective of the Spanish stock exchange and the company that runs its infrastructures, BME.
