Resumen de Mary Sumner and maternal authority: from the rectory to the homes of the nation

Sue Anderson-Faithful

  • Mary Sumner (1828-1921) is remembered as the 'Foundress' of the Anglican Mothers' Union. The Mothers' Union grew from parish origins in 1876, as a mothers' meeting in the rectory, to an organization with branches across the globe. It was the second religious organization run by women, sanctioned by the Anglican Church of England.
