Resumen de La susceptibilidad de la memoria de un testigo

  Cientos de estudios científicos, realizados sobre todo en los últimos 30 años, han puesto de manifiesto que la memoria humana puede cometer errores y cómo en la identificación de testigos oculares la memoria puede verse afectada por una gran variedad de factores. En este artículo se analizan los principales mecanismos de la memoria y del olvido, se aborda la problemática de las declaraciones de los testigos oculares y su fiabilidad y se presentan múltiples estudios, que ponen de manifiesto la susceptibilidad de la memoria para generar falsos recuerdos o para manipular a un individuo en cuanto a su intención de compra y de consumo. También se detallan cómo afectan al recuerdo las situaciones de tensión y violencia o la presencia de un arma en la escena observada. Se analizan los factores a tener en cuenta para que las ruedas de identificación de sospechosos sean más precisas y para no contaminar la declaración de un testigo en la toma de datos iniciales. Por último, se detallan las aportaciones de algunos investigadores sobre cómo nuestra memoria completa la información que le falta.

  Hundreds of scientific studies, which have been conducted mainly in the last 30 years, have shown that human memory can make mistakes and can be affected by a variety of factors, such as can occur in eyewitness identification. In this article the main mechanisms of memory and forgetting are analyzed as well as the difficulties inherent in providing eyewitness statements and their reliability. Moreover, there are presented multiple studies that demonstrate the susceptibility of memory to the generation of false recollections or to the manipulations of individuals regarding their attitudes towards purchase and consumption. The effects on memory of situational factors such as tension and violence -as well as the presence or not of weapons- are also studied.

  There are analysed those factors which should be considered in the suspect identification line-up process and in the reliable taking of statements from a witness. Finally, there are presented the contributions of some researchers regarding how memory is capable of filling in information when such is incomplete or missing.
