An experimental study in 24 rabbits is reported; osteochondral defects in the weightbearing area of the cartilage of the medial condile were made, being filled with an osteochondral graft taken from the femoral articular surface of the femoral patella joint. The animals were sacrified after three days, in one, two, three, four, six, eight, ten, twelve, sixteen, eighteen and twenty weeks.
The examination microscopy and triptium timidine uptake showed the cartilage to remain alive along the ali experience, increasing its thickness until the surrounding cartilage level, but without any real continuity. The bone part of the graft is rebuilt perfectly by creeping substitution.
