  • Since the early twentieth century, governments, universities and prívate donors have been establishing schemes to facilitate opportunities for overseas students to study abroad. Examples of such programrnes date back to 1902, with the initiation of the Rhodes Scholarships in Oxford, and the post-war period, which witnessed the flourishing of internacional award schemes, such as Fulbright, Marshall and Commonwealth Scholarships.
