Resumen de Discursos de natureza: a produção da história oitocentista no instituto histórico e geográfico brasileiro

This article reflects on how the natural environment, the elements that characterize it, and the theories involved were all present within the intellectual endeavours that produced historic knowledge in Brazil. In the nineteenth century, wildlife in the form of flora and fauna as well as natural minerals traversed the century as true subjects of the nation, through the work of the Brazilian Institute of History and Geography. From this point of view, we will examine here examples of the writings of Joaquim Manoel de Macedo, Jose Ribeiro Fontes and Jose Silvestre Rebello, intellectuals who helped to found and build the foundations of writing history in which nature itself was the main character. Through them we discover a generation that will prove to influence in a profound way the thinking and the making of Brazilian history.

Este artigo busca refletir como o meio natural, as ideias que o envolveram, os elementos que o caracterizaram estiveram presentes no interior das disputas intelectuais que produziram o conhecimento histórico no Brasil. No século XIX, por meio do Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro, o meio natural em seus animais, vegetais e minerais atravessou o século como sujeito da nação. Neste sentido, tomaremos aqui como exemplares os escritos de Joaquim Manoel de Macedo, José Ribeiro Fontes e José Silvestre Rebello, intelectuais que ajudaram a fundar e construir os alicerces da escrita de uma história na qual a natureza constituiu-se o personagem principal. Por meio deles encontramos uma geração que vai marcar de forma profunda o pensar e fazer a história no Brasil.
