Estado paraguayo y población indígena. El colectivo de inmigrantes en el periodo de entreguerras, 1870-1932

    En este artículo pretendemos analizar la actuación de los gobiernos paraguayos de posguerra en relación con dos colectivos: las poblaciones indígenas autóctonas, por un lado, y los inmigrantes de origen europeo que llegaron al Paraguay tras la Guerra de la Triple Alianza, por otro. Como veremos, en los discursos oficiales de la época se trató de forma muy distinta a estas dos minorías.

    Esta estrategia analítica nos sirve para comprender al Paraguay de ayer y de hoy, ya que, a través de la legislación y la venta de tierras, ideadas y ejecutadas por el Estado paraguayo, se favoreció indiscutiblemente a los inmigrantes, en detrimento de los indígenas, y las consecuencias de dichas actuaciones y las desigualdades creadas entonces son visibles aún hoy en día.

    This article presents an analysis of the action of the postwar Paraguayan governments regarding two groups: the native indigenous people, and the European immigrants that arrived in Paraguay after the Paraguayan War. As we have seen, the official speeches of that time treated these two social minorities very differently. This analysis helps us to understand the past and the present of Paraguay. Through the laws and the sale of public lands devised by the Paraguayan state, immigrants were undoubtedly favored, to the detriment of the indigenous.

    The consequences of these measures and the inequalities created during this historical period are still evident today.
